GC Collaborates with the Public and Private Sectors and Society in Tackling Waste Problem and Sustainable Use of Plastic

GC realizes the significance of the marine waste problem, thus collaborated with the government, private sector and the society to initiate “Sustainable Plastic and Waste Management Collaboration” project, which is to be executed for a period of no less than 5 years to tackle waste problems and encourage sustainable use of plastic under the circular economy direction. The objective is to reduce the amount of marine waste in Thailand by not less than 50% within 2027. On this occasion, Khun Prasert Bunsumpun, Chairman of Thailand Business Council for Sustainable Development and Khun Patiparn Sukondhaman, Chief Operating Officer – Downstream Petrochemical Business, PTT Global Chemical PCL, participated in the press conference and signing ceremony, together with other participating alliances from the public, private sectors and the society of over 20 organizations on June 5, 2018 at Central World Department Store.

Khun Patiparn Sukondhaman stated that “PTT Global Chemical or GC bears the tagline that says ‘Chemistry for Better Living’, implying the Company’s firm determination to solve the problems arising from plastic waste and residue, using the concept of circular economy. Meanwhile, we are trying to reduce the amount of plastic waste by producing bio products that are environment-friendly. In terms of reuse, GC intends to reduce production of single-use plastic and will instead develop reusable plastic products. Lastly, with the initiative concerning recycling, we have become the leader in executing Upcycling the Oceans project, bringing marine waste especially plastic bottles to process and turn into high-value fashion products. We believe that such an integration will strengthen collaboration to tackle plastic waste problems even further.”
