GC is collaborating with all sectors to create effective waste management outcomes for communities through various collaborative projects, including Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand/Upcycling Plastic Waste, the ThinkCycle Bank, Public Private Partnership (PPP Plastic) and the Our Khung Bangkachao project. In 2019, we collected and separated waste as follows:
Total Collected Waste from Our Projects*
Kg.

* This amount is not include waste the data source of waste in PPP Plastic project because the criteria to collect and separate waste in type of Other Recyclable Materials is different from other projects.
** Total Green House Gas Reduction was calculated from the comparison of waste’s weight in case that it is send to the landfill. This amount is not include the data source of waste in type of Other Recyclable Materials in PPP Plastic.

GC Circular Living Story
Circular Living Lifestyle
“Protect Us, Protect the Earth”

GC’s Approach to the Circular Living Lifestyle
The Circular Economy
The “Circular Economy” is a new way of doing business that reflects the relationship between the environmental impact of overusing natural resources and the processes that make up the product lifecycle. This includes resource selection, product design, the manufacturing process, end use, and waste disposal, as well as recycling. Doing these processes efficiently to reduce waste, and optimizing it by recycling plastic waste back into raw materials, leads to more responsible and sustainable resource management.
GC Circular Living
To the end consumer, the Circular Economy can be seen as a distant and unapproachable industrial practice. To change this perception, GC believes that the concept of “Circular Living” brings the principles of the Circular Economy into our daily lives. Circular Living means taking relevant and flexible individual actions that help each of us to reduce our impact on the planet’s natural resources and extract more value from plastic waste.
Circular Living Project Success
Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand – The First Collection
These products are made from plastic waste found in the sea and along the coast of Rayong with the active support of people in the community who believe in this project and want to keep Thai seas clean and beautiful. We joined together to collect plastic waste, including discarded bottles and bags, to upcycle them in order to give them a new life as raw materials. Through our creativity and originality, we then produced the first fashionable collection under the “Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand” project.

Plastic waste found in the sea and on the coastlines of Rayong was value added to produce a collection of cool t-shirts as the 1st collection under the ‘Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand’ project. That received an overwhelming feedback and has sold out within minutes of time.

Backpacks in bright colors was produced through an innovative production in which plastic waste is value added and transformed into…the 1st collection of fashionable products under the ‘Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand’ project that has sold out within minutes of time.

ThinkCycle Bank Project
Lets join waste separation program and change the world with James Jirayu Tangsrisuk in Kon Loh Kor Tum Dee (Good-Looking Guys need to do good things), 12th Annual Activity. James Jirayu will coach the students in targeted school, Rayong, to separate waste accurately including waste classification, weighing and selling for ThinkCycle Bank, waste trading program in school. This program has contributed the students to have the consciousness of waste separation accurately. Also, this can help the students have perceived that trash is treasure so they won’t leave it for granted. Eventually, they have been coached to save their income by using account book.
Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand Key Projects driving GC Circular Living
The “Upcycling, the Oceans, Thailand” project by GC, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Ecoalf Foundation and over 1,000 participants including volunteers, scuba divers, communities and nature enthusiasts, joined together to collect plastic waste from the sea in Rayong. The collected waste was upcycled to produce the project’s first collection of fashionable products such as Upcycling the Oceans, Thailand (UTO) t-shirts and backpacks. The response was overwhelming and the products sold out within minutes after going on sale. This project underscores GC’s success in generating social awareness towards ocean conservation in Thailand and supporting an environmentally-conscious lifestyle that reinforces GC Circular Living. The project is also in keeping with the principles of the Circular Economy which contributes to GC’s mission to build “Chemistry for Better Living.”

The “Upcycling Plastic Waste” project
Today, GC has further advanced its research and development by initiating the “Upcycling Plastic Waste” project as a driving force in upcycling Polyethylene (PE) plastic, the most common plastic primarily used in packaging, such as plastic bags, which are unfortunately in abundance everywhere. The project is an important collaboration between GC’s department of Innovation and Research and Development, and Jarupatcha “Pook” Achavasmit, a material designer and professor at the Industrial Design department, Faculty of Architecture, King Mongkut’s Institute Technology Ladkrabang. “Upcycling Plastic Waste” aims to add value to plastic waste, giving it a new life. Additionally, to extend the partnership to include communities and allow residents to earn a supplementary income, GC conducted a training program to produce textiles and apparel from recycled plastics for the Charoen Pattana and Noen Samray 1 communities in Rayong province, with both becoming pilot communities with plans for an expansion in the near future. The project expects to promote environmental conservation and also build a social enterprise model that empowers communities to become more self-reliant.
